Is this course approved by the Tennessee Board of Dentistry? Yes! You will receive 6 hours of continuing education credit when you take this course.

Do I need to be registered as a dental assistant in the State of Tennessee to take this course? Yes, you must be registered and have a valid registration number that begins with DA.

What type of computer equipment will I need? Any computer with an internet connection will be adequate for this course, but a high speed internet connection for your computer is highly desirable.

How is the course organized? The course has a didactic portion and a clinical portion. Much of the didactic material will be provided online. During the clinical portion, sealants will be placed on 10 extracted teeth that the student must provide. NO patient is involved in the clinical portion.

What materials do I need to bring to the clinical portion of the course?

Do I need to bring a patient to the clinical portion? You do not need to bring a patient.

What do I need to do after completing the course? You must submit the necessary Board sealant application. The Board will then send you a temporary permit to place sealants. You must successfully seal four maxillary molars, four mandibular molars and two premolars and document that placement on the temporary permit form. When that form is returned to the Board, you will receive permanent certification.

Who determines if my sealants were placed successfully? Your supervising dentist.

Where will the clinical portion be held? The clinical portion is held at different locations across the state. Go to "register" at the top of the page to see the locations.

How much does the course cost? The fee for the course is $150.

How do I pay for the course? Payment is easy. After registering, you can pay immediately using Paypal, a safe and reliable online payment program. You do not need a Paypal account to use your own credit card. However, if you create a Paypal account, you have six months to pay for the course with no interest.

What is your refund policy? You will receive a full refund (minus a 10% processing fee) if you cancel at least 30 days before the course. You will receive a 50% refund if you cancel less than 30 days before the course.

Do I need to purchase a textbok or other study material? No textbook is required.

  2. Recognize anatomic landmarks on teeth that influence sealant placement,
  3. Follow infection control guidelines when applying sealants,
  4. Determine the armamentarium needed to place sealants,
  5. Compare the various types of sealant material,
  6. Educate patients and/or parents with regards to sealants,
  7. State the negative aspects of acid etching,
  8. Compare the various methods of moisture control necessary when applying sealants,
  9. Prepare a tooth for a sealant including isolation and acid etching,
  10. Seal a tooth following a predetermined regimen,
  11. Self evaluate the success of sealant placement.
